MUSE Students from Rogers High, East Bay Met and Portsmouth High Schools recently co-curated the Spring 2014 edition of the MUSE Exhibition at Newport Art Museum. Their participation included curating a piece into the show, either an original artwork or a loan of work from an artist alumnus of their school, and installation.

Installation included demonstration of protocol and technique of installing their pieces by Curatorial Assistant and Registrar Tara Ecenarro (herself a Portsmouth High graduate and MUSE Alumna) and MUSE Coordinator Peter Dickison within the galleries at Newport Art Museum. Arrangement was led by Peter and students measured, centered and installed their pieces using math and fractions for the gallery style installation.

Additional help was provided by the East Bay Met school teacher Casey Weibust and two of her students who stayed on hand until the show was completely hung. Their extra effort really made a difference, and we were all grateful for it.

Students provided refreshments for guests at their opening reception on Newport Gallery Night, a once a month event on the second Thursday, with free admission to the museum that often features gallery talks and other events. The show is attended by many from the school communities as well as museum visitors in the building on Gallery Night.

The MUSE Exhibition opened on May 8, 2014, and ran through Memorial Day, May 26.
