The artwork on the cover of this card was created by Alex Caparas, Rogers High School MUSE student. Alex and his MUSE classmates, along with MUSE students from the East Bay Met School, visited the Newport Congregational Church to view and sketch the interiors designed and created by American artist John La Farge (1835-1910).
This second annual project is in partnership with the La Farge Restoration Fund, the Newport Congregational Church, and the Newport Art Museum MUSE Program. The students are invited to submit their designs inspired by the interior mural paintings and stained glass windows.
This design was chosen from among all the submissions to grace the cover of the holiday greeting sent to Fund members, contributors and the congregation. The project teaches the students about the art of John La Farge, Newport history and the way partnerships between non-profit organizations can benefit each of the participants.
