Two articles in the New York Times highlight the extent to which major museums are featuring local artists more as they look to reflect their region and attract local audiences.
Baltimore, the city of much grave news this spring, has a major museum that has a history of groundbreaking exhibitions and showcases a world class collection as well. Director of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Doreen Bolger, said in the Times interview, “..each person’s success supports another, whether the organizations are large or small, or whether we’re talking about institutions or artists.”

Kaywin Feldman, Director of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, was quoted in a separate article that museums are becoming “community gathering centers.”
“As our world becomes more global and homogeneous, there is increasing interest in the character and quality of the local.”
